Game Overview

World Boxing for the NES was released in Japan in 1985 by Bandai. It was one of the earlier boxing games on the system, arriving before the genre became more refined with titles like Punch-Out. The graphics are simple, with two small fighters in a ring that feels more like a square.

You control a boxer from a side view, moving left and right to dodge and throwing jabs and hooks with the A and B buttons. The main goal is to knock out your opponent before they do the same to you. The mechanics are basic; you have a high punch, a low punch, and can block, but the opponent AI quickly learns your patterns. If you get predictable, they will counter you relentlessly by the third round. The pacing is slow, and the difficulty spikes sharply after the first few fights. It feels stiff and unforgiving, like trying to throw punches underwater.
