Yoshi's Story came out for the Nintendo 64 in 1997, developed and published by Nintendo. It arrived a couple years after Yoshi's Island on the SNES, and it fit right into that era of bright, approachable platformers on the N64, offering a lighter alternative to some of the more complex adventures on the system.

You control one of several Yoshis, each with their own color and slight variations, as you move through levels made to look like pages in a storybook. The main goal is to eat enough fruit in each stage to progress, though you can also hunt for hidden collectibles like hearts and special melons. Signature mechanics include throwing eggs to hit enemies or uncover secrets, and using Yoshi's flutter jump to cross wider gaps. The game is generally easy and relaxed, focused more on exploration and collecting than tough challenges. It feels cheerful and simple, like flipping through a colorful picture book where every page invites a little curiosity.
