Play Ys III - Wanderers from Ys (Japan) on snes Online

Ys III throws Adol into side-scrolling action—you’re actually jumping and manually swinging your sword now, which feels weird at first but kinda clicks. The music slaps, and towns actually feel alive with people to talk to.

Game Overview

Ys III: Wanderers from Ys is that weird middle child of the series where Falcom decided to shake things up. Instead of the usual top-down hack-and-slash, you’re suddenly side-scrolling like an old-school platformer—complete with actual jumping (which, honestly, takes some getting used to after the first two games).

You play as Adol again, but this time you’ve got direct control over his sword swings instead of just bumping into enemies. It’s clunkier than you’d expect—some attacks feel like they barely connect—but there’s something satisfying about timing a jump-slash just right. The music’s still killer, though, and the shift to villages with NPCs you can actually talk to makes it feel more like an RPG than before.

Not everyone loved the change, but if you’re into SNES-era experiments, it’s a neat little time capsule.
