Zen - Intergalactic Ninja is one of those weird, fun Game Boy gems where you play as a neon-green alien ninja fighting to save Earth from an intergalactic polluter. Yeah, it’s as bizarre as it sounds. You jump between platforms, slash enemies with your sword, and even throw shurikens—all while the villain, Lord Contaiminous, tries to turn the planet into a toxic wasteland.
The levels are surprisingly varied—one minute you’re slicing through mutant bugs in a jungle, the next you’re dodging lasers in some high-tech factory. The controls take a second to get used to (that double jump is weirdly floaty), but once it clicks, Zen’s movement feels pretty slick. And the music? Classic Game Boy chiptune energy.
It’s not the deepest game, but there’s something charming about its over-the-top eco-warrior ninja premise. If you like old-school action platformers with a side of ‘90s weirdness, this one’s worth a look.
