Play Zen : Intergalactic Ninja on GB Online
Slash through mutants and dodge obstacles as Zen, the eco-warrior ninja, battles pollution bosses in this side-scrolling action game on Game Boy.
Zen: Intergalactic Ninja came out on the Game Boy in 1993, a time when licensed games were a real mixed bag. It was developed by Konami, which gave it a bit more polish than some of its contemporaries. You play as Zen, a ninja from another planet who is basically an eco-warrior, sent to clean up a polluted Earth.
You control Zen through side-scrolling levels, using a photon sword to slash at mutants and other toxic enemies. The main goal is to defeat the four bosses, each representing a different type of pollution, before taking on the final villain. A key mechanic is the ability to slide under low obstacles and attacks, which becomes essential for dodging. You also collect power-ups to enhance your sword's reach and damage. The game moves at a decent clip, but the enemy placement and platforming can get tricky, demanding precise jumps and attacks. It feels like a solid, compact action game that makes good use of the hardware's limitations.
