Play Zork I: The Great Underground Empire Online
Type your way through a pitch-black dungeon full of riddles and things that want to eat you—one wrong move and you're gruesnack. The parser fights you as much as the monsters do.

Zork I: The Great Underground Empire came out in 1980 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, published by Personal Software Inc. It was one of those early text adventures that ran on home computers when graphics were sparse and imagination did most of the work. You spent a lot of time staring at a blank screen, waiting for the next line of text to transport you somewhere strange.
You play an unnamed adventurer exploring a vast underground world, typing commands to move between locations, solve puzzles, and gather treasure. The game relies entirely on text input; you navigate screen by screen, interact with objects using simple verb-noun combinations, and try to avoid creatures like the grues that hunt in the dark. Progress is slow, deliberate, and often unforgiving; a single misstep or poorly phrased command can end your journey abruptly. Playing Zork feels like wandering through an elaborate, dangerous story where every decision matters.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
