Game Overview

Eye of the Beholder on SNES is one of those classic dungeon crawlers that’ll either hook you immediately or make you realize first-person RPGs aren’t your thing. You start with a party of four—fighter, mage, cleric, thief, the usual suspects—and get dumped straight into Waterdeep’s sewers after the ceiling caves in behind you. No turning back, just dark corridors, weird noises, and the occasional skeleton lunging at you in real-time combat.

The AD&D rules mean you’ll actually need that cleric for healing and the thief for spotting traps (trust me, I learned the hard way). Spells feel powerful but limited—you’ll hoard those magic missiles for tougher fights. The interface is clunky by modern standards, but once you get used to clicking arrows to move and dragging spells onto enemies, it clicks. Literally.

What stuck with me was the atmosphere—torchlight flickering on damp walls, that moment when you open a door and hear something scuttle just out of sight. Just don’t expect a happy stroll—this dungeon wants you dead.
