Game Overview

Eye of the Beholder on SNES is one of those classic dungeon crawlers that feels like you're actually mapping out a labyrinth on graph paper—except you don’t have to, because the game does it for you (thankfully). You start off assembling a party of four adventurers, and I always end up agonizing over whether to take another cleric or just hope I find enough healing potions. The sewers of Waterdeep are dark, claustrophobic, and packed with traps, secret doors, and monsters that love ambushing you from behind. Combat’s grid-based and turn-based, so every move matters—especially when a gelatinous cube oozes into your back row. The atmosphere’s thick with that old-school AD&D vibe, right down to the weirdly specific spell descriptions. Just don’t expect much hand-holding—this one rewards patience and careful exploration.
