I first played The Addams Family on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1992, a game developed by Ocean Software. It was one of those many platformers from that era, but it stood out because it was based on the movie, not the classic TV show. You control Gomez Addams, and your goal is to explore the mansion room by room to find and rescue each family member before confronting the evil lawyer, Tully Alford. The gameplay involves a lot of jumping across floating platforms, avoiding traps like spikes and ghosts, and using Gomez's unique pogo-stick move to reach higher areas. You also collect power-ups, like golf balls to throw at enemies, and find hidden switches to unlock new parts of the house. The pacing is fairly slow and methodical, with some tricky jumps and obscure secrets that can make it frustrating without a guide. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes clunky adventure that captures the movie's gothic charm in its own way.
