Ancient Art of War at Sea came out in 1987 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed by Evryware. It was a time when strategy games were just starting to find their footing on personal computers, and this one focused entirely on naval combat in the ancient Mediterranean. You don't see many games that zero in on triremes and galleys like this one did.

You command a small fleet, moving ship by ship on a grid-based map, hunting for enemy vessels while managing your own limited resources like oarsmen and marines. The main goal is to outmaneuver and destroy the opposing navy, using wind direction to your advantage and choosing when to ram, board, or retreat. The pacing is deliberate, almost chess-like, and the difficulty comes from the AI's unpredictable movements and the constant threat of being caught in a storm. It feels like a careful, tense puzzle where every decision carries weight.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
