Antz: Extreme Racing came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, developed by DC Studios and published by Empire Interactive. It was one of those licensed games that showed up during the GBA's early years, trying to capture some of the energy from the animated film with a racing spin. The hardware was still fresh, and this was part of that wave of games trying to figure out what worked on the small screen.
You control Z or other ant characters from the movie, racing through multi-level tracks built from everyday objects like garden hoses, kitchen counters, and picnic tables. The main goal is straightforward: finish first across a series of cups. You collect power-ups like speed boosts and oil slicks, and the tracks are filled with obstacles such as falling crumbs, water droplets, and other insects that can slow you down. The racing is fast, sometimes a bit slippery, and the perspective can make judging jumps tricky. It feels like a chaotic, slightly janky rush from start to finish.
