Game Overview

Baseball (J) [p1] is a straightforward NES baseball sim—no frills, just pitching, hitting, and fielding. The first thing you notice is how basic it feels, with blocky players and simple animations, but there’s a weird charm to it.

You pick between USA and Japan teams, each with their own roster, though the differences aren’t huge. The pitching mechanic is stiff—timing matters, but it’s not always responsive. Fielding is clunky, too; sometimes your player just won’t react fast enough, which can be frustrating.

Against the CPU, the AI is predictable after a while, but two-player mode is where Baseball (J) [p1] shines. It’s one of those games where trash-talking your friend after a home run makes up for the janky controls. Not deep, but decent for quick matches.
