Battle of Atlantis came out in 1981 as an arcade game from Game-A-Tron Studios. It was part of that wave of early 80s games where you just had to survive as long as possible, with simple goals and a focus on high scores. You pilot a small sub through a maze of coral and rock formations, screen by screen. Your main job is to destroy enemy sea creatures like sharks and octopuses with your limited torpedoes, while also dodging mines and depth charges that enemies drop. The key is managing your torpedo count; you have to pick up floating power ups to restock, which adds a layer of tension. The pacing is relentless, with enemies swarming from all sides almost immediately, and the difficulty spikes hard after the first few screens. It feels like a constant, frantic scramble to stay alive just a few seconds longer.
