Game Overview

Battle Tanx came out on Game Boy Color in 2000, developed by 3DO. It was part of that wave of late-era GBC games that tried to push what the hardware could do visually, with a focus on multiplayer. The single-player campaign is set in a post-apocalyptic world where you drive a tank through ruined cities, fighting rival vehicles and rescuing hostages.

You control a heavily armed tank, moving through maze-like levels from an overhead perspective. Your main goal is to destroy enemy tanks, find keys to open gates, and rescue captives before moving to the exit. Signature mechanics include blasting through destructible walls to create new paths, and using a variety of special weapons like homing missiles and napalm strikes. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can spike sharply in later stages, especially when surrounded. It feels tense and explosive, especially with a friend in link cable versus mode.
