Beyond Zork: The Coconut of Quendor came out in 1987 for MS-DOS, developed by Infocom. It was part of that era when text adventures were starting to blend with early RPG mechanics, offering something a little different from the purely parser-driven games that came before it. You could tell they were experimenting, trying to stretch what an adventure game could do on those old systems.
You control an adventurer exploring the lands of Quendor, searching for the fabled Coconut. The game combines traditional text input with a simple graphical map and character stats that improve as you gain experience. You navigate screen by screen, solving puzzles, fighting monsters in turn-based combat, and managing an inventory that often feels just a little too small. The pacing is deliberate, sometimes slow, and the puzzles can be genuinely obscure. Playing it feels like carefully picking your way through a world that’s equal parts charming and stubbornly mysterious.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
