Bio Hazard, known as Resident Evil outside Japan, came out on the Sega Saturn in 1996, developed and published by Capcom. It was a time when 3D survival horror was still finding its footing, and this port arrived not long after the PlayStation original, bringing its particular brand of tension to a different audience. The Saturn had its own library of unique titles, and this one stood out for its grim atmosphere and cinematic presentation, even with the hardware's limitations.

You control either Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine, members of a special operations team sent to investigate bizarre murders, only to find yourselves trapped inside a mansion overrun by the undead. Your main objective is simply to survive, find a way out, and uncover the truth behind the outbreak. The game uses pre-rendered backgrounds with fixed camera angles that change with each new room, often hiding enemies just off screen until you step into their path. You manage a very limited inventory of weapons, healing items, and key objects, forcing constant trips to item boxes and careful planning about what to carry. Combat is deliberate and often best avoided; every bullet counts, and running is frequently the smarter choice. It feels claustrophobic and tense, a slow burn of dread where every door opened could be your last.
