Blue’s Journey is this weird little Neo Geo gem where you play as a tiny dude with a leaf whip trying to save his planet from pollution-spewing invaders. The first thing that struck me was how bright and cartoony everything looks—until you realize the Daruma tribe is basically turning the place into a wasteland. Blue’s only weapon is this floppy leaf, but you quickly learn to flip enemies over and chuck them at each other, which never gets old.

You collect flowers (the currency here) to buy upgrades like swim fins or honey that boosts your stamina. There’s something oddly charming about the shopkeeper breaking into song to lift curses—like, who thought of that? Boss fights pop up every few levels, and afterward, this sketchy devil guy offers you a gamble: pull a string for a random reward (or punishment). Time’s always ticking, though, and if you dawdle too long, some nightmare bird-missile thing shows up to ruin your day.

It’s quirky, a bit janky in that classic Neo Geo way, but there’s a real personality to it that makes it stick in your head.
