Game Overview

I picked up Bomberman Collection for the Game Boy back when it came out in Japan. It was published by Hudson Soft, the same folks behind the series on other consoles. On the Game Boy, it was a solid way to get your Bomberman fix on the go, especially since portable multiplayer was still a novelty. The collection bundled a few of the earlier titles, so it felt like a good value if you were into that kind of thing.

You control Bomberman, a little guy in a maze, and your main goal is to blow up obstacles and enemies with bombs you place. The bombs explode in a cross pattern, so you have to be careful not to get caught in your own blasts. You can collect power-ups to increase your blast radius, your speed, or the number of bombs you can drop at once. The pacing is quick; you clear screen after screen, and the difficulty ramps up steadily as enemies get smarter and mazes more complex. It feels satisfying to set up a chain reaction and watch everything explode just right.
