Bomberman Max 2: Red Advance is one of those GBA games that somehow makes blowing things up feel wholesome. You play as Max—Bomberman’s robot buddy—who gets shrunk down to pocket size by the usual villain, Mujoe. Now you’re bombing your way through tiny mazes, blasting obstacles and weird little enemies to reach the exit. Classic Bomberman chaos, but with a weirdly cute twist.
The real fun comes from the Charabombs—these collectible power-ups that tweak your explosions in weird ways. Some make your bombs bigger, others let you kick them across the screen. You can even trade them with friends if you link up with the Blue Advance version (though good luck finding someone who still has a copy). And yeah, there’s the standard 4-player battle mode if you’ve got three other people and a link cable lying around. It’s exactly as chaotic as you’d expect.
Honestly, it’s not the deepest game, but there’s something satisfying about clearing a path through a level with perfectly timed explosions. Just don’t get cornered by your own bomb—happens more often than I’d like to admit.
