Brutal: Paws of Fury came out on the Super Nintendo in 1994, published by GameTek. It was part of that wave of fighting games trying to grab some of the attention after Street Fighter II's success, offering a cast of animal warriors instead of the usual martial artists.
You pick a fighter, like a wolf with a sword or a tornado-spinning kangaroo, and battle through a series of one-on-one matches. The main goal is to defeat each opponent and become the champion. The game uses a six-button control setup for punches, kicks, and special moves, encouraging you to learn simple combos. Matches are fast and the difficulty can spike sharply against later opponents. It feels a bit stiff and the hit detection isn't always precise, but there's a strange appeal in its rough, energetic brawling.
