Car and Driver came out in 1992 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, published by Lerner Research. It was one of those early PC racing titles that tried to capture some arcade feel without the hardware to fully pull it off. You got a selection of real cars, including some odd choices like a minivan, and a handful of tracks that mixed real-world locations with some truly bizarre fantasy circuits.

You control your chosen vehicle from a behind-the-car perspective, wrestling with physics that feel more like sliding on ice than gripping asphalt. The main goal is just to finish each race in first place, but the real challenge comes from the erratic AI drivers who swerve unpredictably and rarely follow a clean racing line. Signature mechanics include a very loose, drift-heavy handling model and track designs that veer into the surreal, like weaving through a mall parking lot dotted with fake food court kiosks at absurd speeds. The pacing is frantic and the difficulty is unforgiving, mostly due to the slippery controls and chaotic opponent behavior. It feels like trying to steer a shopping cart down a hill while everyone else is also out of control.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
