Castaway is one of those weirdly addictive MS-DOS games that somehow makes getting stranded on a pixelated island feel like an actual adventure. You wake up with nothing but your wits and a keyboard—no tutorial, no hints, just the immediate panic of "okay, how do I not starve?" The first thing I did was mash keys until my guy picked up a coconut, which felt like a major victory until I realized I had no idea how to open it.
It’s got that classic King’s Quest vibe where everything could kill you, but with more palm trees and fewer gnomes. The puzzles are just obscure enough to make you feel clever when you finally stumble on the solution (took me forever to figure out the fishing spear). And yeah, the MIDI soundtrack? Weirdly catchy—you’ll hear it in your sleep.
