Castle Excellent, known as Castlequest in North America, came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988. It was developed by Compile, a company known for a certain style of methodical, puzzle-heavy action games. You control a knight tasked with rescuing a princess from a multi-towered castle. The core of the game is navigating a massive, interconnected fortress screen by screen.
