Castlevania Adventure came out for the Game Boy in 1989, developed by Konami. You control Christopher Belmont, whipping your way through four stages of Transylvania to defeat Dracula. The game progresses screen by screen, with you breaking candles for hearts to power sub-weapons like the axe or holy water. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, and the platforming demands precision; a mistimed jump onto a crumbling block or an encounter with the infamously erratic flying enemies can end a run quickly. It feels like a condensed, grueling test of patience and pattern recognition.
