Game Overview

Castlevania 2: Simon’s Quest is one of those NES games that starts with a gut punch—right after defeating Dracula in the first game, Simon gets cursed and has to put him back together to break it. Yeah, seriously. You’re wandering through creepy villages where people give you vague hints (or straight-up lie to you), and the day-night cycle makes everything feel even more unsettling. One minute you’re whipping zombies in broad daylight, the next you’re fumbling through pitch-black woods while tougher enemies spawn.

The mansions hide Dracula’s body parts, but good luck finding them without trial and error—or a friend who played this in the ‘80s. The music’s still killer, though, especially that mournful church theme. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand.
