Game Overview

Konami's Castlevania arrived on the Amiga in 1986, a time when home computers were just beginning to offer arcade-quality experiences. It was a direct port of the original NES title, bringing its gothic adventure to a new audience. The game stood out for its detailed, moody visuals and its commitment to a challenging, methodical style of play that was less common on computer platforms.

You control Simon Belmont, a vampire hunter armed with a whip, and your goal is to fight through Dracula's castle to defeat him. Movement is screen by screen; you clear one area of enemies before progressing to the next. You use your whip to attack foes like skeletons and bats, and you can collect secondary weapons like holy water or a throwing axe, which consume hearts found by breaking candles. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty is considerable, demanding precise jumps and careful enemy management. It feels tense and rewarding to finally conquer a tricky section after several attempts.
