Castlevania - Circle Of The Moon (Eurasia) is one of those GBA games that feels bigger than it should. You start in this gothic castle, just you and your whip, and the first few rooms already throw skeletons and bats at you. The movement is stiff at first, but you get used to it.

The card system is what makes it interesting. You find these random drops from enemies that let you mix and match magic effects. Sometimes you get a useless combo, other times you stumble into something that melts bosses. It’s unpredictable, but in a way that keeps you grinding just to see what you’ll get next.

My only gripe is the visibility. The GBA’s dark screen made some areas hard to see back in the day, and even now, the colors feel muddy in spots. Still, Castlevania - Circle Of The Moon (Eurasia) holds up as a solid, challenging metroidvania with a neat twist on magic.
