Play Castlevania - Portrait Of Ruin (Supremacy) (EU) Online
Switch between a whip-wielding hunter and a spellcasting witch as you explore a gothic castle, diving into haunted paintings that twist into bizarre new worlds. The DS screens make every pixel of those crumbling halls and epic boss fights feel alive.
Portrait of Ruin came out for the Nintendo DS in 2006, developed and published by Konami. It was part of that early wave of DS games that really tried to use both screens in a meaningful way, moving beyond just being a gimmick. The hardware felt like a good fit for the series' style of exploration and action.
You control two characters, Jonathan Morris and Charlotte Orlean, and can swap between them on the fly or have the AI control the secondary one. Jonathan uses the Vampire Killer whip and sub weapons, while Charlotte relies on a book for magical attacks. Your goal is to stop a vampire named Brauner from destroying the world, which involves exploring a large castle and jumping into magical paintings that act as portals to entirely different themed stages, like a sandy Egyptian tomb or a fiery military base. The dual character system lets you combine their abilities to solve puzzles and access new areas, and the touch screen is used for managing spells and items without pausing. The pacing is brisk, with a good mix of combat and exploration, though some boss fights demand precise timing. It feels responsive and strategic, especially when you start chaining attacks between both characters to clear a room.
