Chimera Beast is one of those arcade games that looks simple at first—just you versus a parade of pixelated monsters—but then suddenly you're sweating over the controls as some three-headed abomination fills the screen. The sprites have that perfect retro chunky look, and the music somehow makes your fingers move faster than your brain can keep up.

What I love is how each creature has its own weird attack pattern. The first time a floating eyeball split into three smaller eyeballs mid-fight, I panicked and mashed buttons like an idiot. It’s the kind of game where you lose three lives in two minutes, then immediately slam another coin in because this time you’ll get further. Classic arcade logic.

If you miss the days of sticky joysticks and CRT glow, this’ll hit the spot. Just don’t blame me when you start dreaming in 8-bit monster sprites.
