Game Overview

Remember those old-school text adventures where you typed "go north" and hoped you didn’t get eaten by a grue? Computer Novel Construction Set was like having the keys to that kingdom—except you got to build the whole thing yourself. No programming, just a straightforward way to stitch together branching storylines, drop in some pixel-y graphics, and throw in puzzles that’d make your friends groan (or cheer).

I spent way too many afternoons as a kid cobbling together ridiculous fantasy quests and mystery stories where every choice mattered. The interface was clunky by today’s standards, sure, but there was something magic about seeing your own dumb jokes or weird plot twists come to life. If you ever passed around a notebook with "turn to page 47 if you fight the dragon" scribbled in it, this was basically that—but with the satisfying clack of a keyboard instead of pencil smudges.

Honestly, half the fun was playing other people’s janky homemade games and realizing yours weren’t the only ones where you could die by accidentally insulting a sentient toaster.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
