Computer Novel Construction Set came out in 1985 as part of Electronic Arts's MS-DOS Classic Games line. It was a tool for building your own text adventures, something you didn't see often on PCs back then. The package gave you everything to make interactive stories without needing to program, which felt pretty freeing at the time.
You control the creation process from start to finish, placing rooms, writing descriptions, and linking choices together. The main objective is to build a complete, playable adventure from scratch. You drag and drop story branches, assign items and obstacles, and test the logic screen by screen. The pacing is entirely up to you; some stories can be short and silly, others sprawling and difficult. It feels like handing someone a book where you wrote every possible turn the story could take.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
