Game Overview

Conflict in Vietnam came out in 1986 for MS-DOS, published by MicroProse. It was one of those early strategy games that tried to capture a complex, modern military situation on home computers, back when most war games were still about historical battles or abstracted sci-fi conflicts. You could tell it was ambitious for its time, even if the technology limited how much it could show.

You command a squad of American soldiers, moving them turn by turn across a top-down map of Vietnam. The main goal is to complete missions, like securing villages or rescuing prisoners, while managing your troops' morale, ammunition, and fatigue. Key mechanics include line-of-sight checks to spot hidden enemies and careful use of cover during firefights; the jungle terrain plays a huge role, often concealing ambushes until it's too late. The pacing is slow and deliberate, with a high difficulty that punishes rash decisions. It feels tense and unforgiving, like every cleared zone is a small victory weighed against real losses.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
