Game Overview

Conquest (1983) is one of those MS-DOS games that proves you don’t need fancy graphics to get completely absorbed. At first glance, it looks like a simple grid with tiny armies—but give it five minutes, and you’ll be hunched over your keyboard, muttering about flanking maneuvers and supply lines.

It plays like a stripped-down version of Risk, but with way more tension. You move units across territories, trying to outguess the AI (or a friend, if you can convince someone to play). The battles are quick, almost brutal—no drawn-out animations, just a blink-and-you-miss-it clash of numbers. Somehow, that makes every loss sting more.

What I love is how unpredictable it feels, even now. The AI isn’t just dumb aggression; it’ll feint, retreat, and occasionally pull off a move that makes you groan. And yeah, the graphics are literally just colored squares, but there’s charm in that. You start seeing the board like a general’s map, not a video game.

If you’ve ever wondered what strategy games were like before they got bloated with tutorials and cutscenes, this is your time machine.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
