Game Overview

I picked up Crayon Shin-chan - Obaka Dainin Den - Susume! Kasukabe Ninja Tai! on the Nintendo DS back in 2009. It was developed by Inti Creates, who are known for a lot of solid action games, so I was curious how they'd handle a Shin-chan title. It felt very much like a product of its time, a licensed game trying to stand out on a system flooded with touch screen experiments.

You control Shin-chan and his friends through a series of side-scrolling ninja missions. The main goal is to complete objectives, like sneaking past guards or retrieving items, across various themed stages. The signature mechanics are all touch-based; you tap, swipe, and drag the stylus to make Shin-chan perform actions like throwing shuriken, climbing walls, or using his special "elephant" attack to stun enemies. The pacing is deliberately silly and not very difficult, focusing more on causing chaos than on precision. It feels like playing through a particularly goofy episode of the show where your failures are often funnier than your successes.
