Game Overview

I first played Cycles, The - International Grand Prix Racing on the Amiga back in 1989. It was developed by MicroProse, a name I trusted for solid simulations. At the time, racing games were starting to push the hardware, and this one aimed for a more serious take on motorcycle Grand Prix, which felt like a fresh challenge compared to the arcade racers I was used to.

You control a rider on one of several bike classes, each with distinct handling and speed. The main goal is straightforward: win races across a variety of international circuits. The game uses a split-screen mode for two-player competition, which made for some intense couch rivalries. Weather conditions change dynamically during races, forcing you to adapt your riding style and braking points. The difficulty is unforgiving; one mistake can send you skidding off the track. It feels tense and demanding, requiring full concentration to shave seconds off your lap times.
