Game Overview

Dark Designs II: Closing the Gate is one of those late '90s MS-DOS adventures that somehow slipped under the radar—which is a shame, because it nails that perfect mix of eerie fantasy and "wait, how was I supposed to know to use the pickled herring here?" puzzle logic. You're basically dumped into this gloomy, pixelated world where every click could mean uncovering a crucial clue or accidentally summoning something that’ll make you regret not saving more often.

The puzzles don’t hold your hand, but they’re not unfair either—just the right kind of frustrating where you’ll mutter "oh, come on" before suddenly realizing the solution was staring at you the whole time. And the atmosphere? Thick enough to cut with a knife. It’s got that old-school charm where the low-res graphics somehow make the creepy bits even creepier.

If you’ve ever lost hours to games like Shadowgate or King’s Quest, this one’s worth dusting off the DOS emulator for. Just keep a notepad handy—you’ll need it.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
