Game Overview

Dark Legions came out in 1994 for MS-DOS, developed by SSI Special Projects Group. It was one of those games that felt right at home on the platform, sitting alongside other strategy titles that demanded a bit more thought than the average action game. You didn't just jump in; you planned, you built, and you hoped your strategy held up.

You control a dark master assembling an army of monsters on a grid-based battlefield, placing creatures like vampires, goblins, and skeletons before each skirmish. The main objective is to destroy the enemy master's crystal while protecting your own. Key mechanics include setting up your forces in formation before combat begins, then watching the battle unfold automatically based on unit placement and type; units act on their own, with vampires raising zombies from fallen enemies and wraiths teleporting short distances. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, and the difficulty can be punishing if your initial setup is weak. It feels like directing a macabre puppet show where you set the stage but have to watch the chaos play out.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
