Play Double Dragon (World) Online

Grab a friend, bust some heads with spin kicks and hair pulls, and rescue Marian in this clunky-but-charming 8-bit brawler. The two-player mode turns it into a hilarious mess of elbows and knees.

Game Overview

Double Dragon on the Sega Master System came out in 1988, developed by Technos Japan. It was one of the many side-scrolling beat 'em ups available at the time, and while it didn't have the arcade's polish, it brought the brawling action home. The SMS version had its own look and feel, fitting right in with the console's library of straightforward, action-focused games.

You control Billy or Jimmy Lee, moving screen by screen through urban environments, punching and kicking waves of enemies. The main goal is to rescue Marian from the Black Warriors gang. You can pick up weapons like knives and whips, and use special moves such as elbow strikes and spin kicks. The pacing is methodical; enemies swarm you, and the difficulty can feel unforgiving, especially in later stages. It feels rough around the edges, but there's a simple satisfaction in clearing each screen with well-timed attacks.
