Battletoads & Double Dragon on NES is one of those ridiculous '90s crossovers that somehow works—like if someone mashed up a Saturday morning cartoon with a kung fu flick. You pick either the Battletoads (who fight like they’ve been mainlining energy drinks) or the Double Dragon brothers (all flying kicks and elbow smashes), then brawl through levels packed with aliens, robots, and goons who never seem to run out of backup.

The first time I played, I went with Rash because, well, he headbutts people with a helmet made of pure attitude. The combat’s simple but satisfying—you’ve got basic punches, jump kicks, and those absurd Battletoad super moves where they morph their limbs into wrecking balls. And yeah, it’s tough. Like, "throw your controller at the couch but immediately pick it back up" tough. The soundtrack slaps, though, and there’s something weirdly charming about watching a toad suplex a space pirate.

Best part? Co-op. Grab a friend, pick complementary characters (Jimmy’s quick, Pimple hits like a truck), and try not to accidentally punch each other off cliffs. It’s chaotic, janky in that old-school way, and honestly kind of glorious. Just don’t expect to beat it in one sitting unless you’ve got reflexes of steel.
