Battletoads & Double Dragon on Sega Genesis is one of those weird, chaotic beat 'em ups where you’re never quite sure if you’re winning or just surviving. Earth’s defenses are toast, thanks to a massive battleship called Colossus, and somehow it’s up to the Battletoads (yes, the weird frog mutants) and the Double Dragon brothers to punch their way through an army of goons.

You start off smashing through city streets, tossing enemies into the screen with exaggerated cartoon violence—classic 90s stuff. The controls take a second to get used to, especially the weird hopping attacks, but once you figure out the timing, you’ll be dropkicking robots and uppercutting aliens like a pro. The later levels get brutal, though—expect a lot of cheap hits and maybe a controller throw or two.

It’s janky, it’s ridiculous, and honestly, half the fun is seeing how absurd the animations get. Definitely a nostalgia trip if you grew up with this era of Sega games.
