Game Overview

Dragon Ball Z: Taiketsu on the GBA is one of those fighting games that feels a little rough around the edges, but still has that DBZ charm. You pick from 15 fighters—Goku, Vegeta, Frieza, the usual suspects—and jump into fights where everyone shares the same basic moves (blocks, throws, ki blasts). The real difference comes from each character’s three special attacks, which actually feel satisfying to land.

Tournament mode starts you off with just seven characters, but you can unlock the rest by winning fights or grabbing cash prizes. The air battles are weirdly fun—suddenly you’re mashing buttons like crazy to out-punch your opponent mid-flight. Endurance mode is exactly what it sounds like: one life bar against a gauntlet of enemies, and if you’re a glutton for punishment, Endurance 2x doubles the pain.

The Z-Store is where things get interesting. You can spend your hard-earned cash on goofy extras like invisible fighters or instant-kill mode, plus character bios and artwork. It’s not the deepest DBZ fighter out there, but it’s got enough to keep you busy if you’re a fan of the series.
