Dragon's Rock came out for the Game Boy Advance, a time when handhelds were full of ambitious action games. I don't recall who made it, but it fit right in with the platform's library, offering a solid, self-contained adventure you could take anywhere. It wasn't trying to reinvent anything, just deliver a competent and challenging experience on the small screen.

You control a lone knight tasked with climbing a massive volcanic peak to slay the dragon at its summit. The game is built on screen by screen exploration; each new area is a self-contained puzzle of platforming and combat. You use a sword for close encounters and a limited magic bow to hit switches or distant enemies. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, as you figure out the timing for each jump and enemy pattern, and the difficulty is consistently stern without feeling unfair. It feels like a tense, careful climb where every successful screen cleared is a genuine accomplishment.
