Dragon Spirit came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, a port of Namco's arcade game. The signature mechanics involve collecting colored orbs that change your weapon; a blue orb gives you a three-way shot, while red turns your fire into powerful lasers. Dying in the first stage unlocks a harder alternate path, essentially a second, more punishing game.
