Dragonriders of Pern came out in 1987 for MS-DOS, published by Everlasting Software. It was a text adventure with some graphical elements, typical for its time, based on Anne McCaffrey's novels. You play as a dragonrider on the planet Pern, tasked with protecting its people from a deadly spore called Thread that falls from the sky.
You control your character through typed commands, naming your dragon and making choices in conversations with other characters. The main goal is to coordinate Thread-fighting missions while managing political tensions among the holds and weyrs. Key mechanics include navigating locations screen by screen, engaging in dialogue that can lead to duels or alliances, and directing your dragon in aerial combat against Thread. Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
