Game Overview

I remember picking up Duke Nukem for the Game Boy Color back in 1999. It was developed by 3D Realms, and it felt like a strange but welcome fit for the handheld. At a time when the GBC library was full of platformers and RPGs, having Duke's brand of action on the go was a novelty. The graphics were obviously scaled down, but the core premise remained intact.

You control Duke through a series of side-scrolling levels, shooting aliens and searching for keycards to unlock doors. The game uses screen-by-screen exploration, so each new area loads as you move forward. You'll find jetpacks to reach higher platforms and occasionally pilot a small vehicle for some variety. The pacing is fairly quick, though some sections can be tricky with limited ammunition. It feels like a condensed, portable version of the chaos Duke is known for.
