Play Family Trainer 1 - Athletic World (Japan) Online

Stomp the Power Pad like a maniac to sprint and hurdle—just try not to trip over your own feet or send the mat sliding across the floor. Better with a friend, when you're both wheezing by the third event.

Game Overview

Family Trainer 1 - Athletic World came out in 1986 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, developed by Bandai. It was part of a wave of active games that tried to get players off the couch, using the Power Pad accessory to turn living rooms into makeshift tracks and fields.

You control an on-screen athlete by running, jumping, and stomping on the Power Pad's pressure-sensitive buttons. The main objective is to complete a series of track and field events, like sprints and hurdles, as quickly as possible. Signature mechanics include timing your steps to match the runner's pace and coordinating two-footed jumps to clear obstacles. The pacing is frantic, especially in later stages, and the difficulty spikes noticeably if your rhythm is off. It feels equal parts exhausting and absurd, especially when you and a friend are both scrambling to keep up.
