Forgotten Worlds came out for the Sega Master System in 1988, a Capcom port of their arcade shooter. It was one of the more ambitious titles on the system, trying to capture the feel of a coin-op experience at home.
You control a lone warrior who flies through side-scrolling and vertically scrolling stages, shooting an array of weapons at biomechanical monsters. The main goal is survival, clearing each screen of enemies before moving forward. Two mechanics define the game: your character rotates freely, allowing you to aim in any direction, and you collect gold from defeated foes to spend between levels on weapon upgrades and extra lives. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is steep, demanding precise movement and quick shooting decisions. It feels like a constant, tense scramble against overwhelming odds.
