Ghostbusters II on MS-DOS is one of those weird, janky-but-lovable movie tie-ins from the late '80s. You start off chasing floating slime blobs through New York streets—which sounds simple until you realize your proton pack handles like a firehose with a mind of its own. The pixel art somehow nails the movie’s vibe, especially Vigo’s creepy portrait glaring at you between levels.
Half the fun is the sheer absurdity: one minute you’re vacuuming up pink goo, the next you’re literally steering Lady Liberty through Manhattan to fight a ghost. It’s clunky by today’s standards, but there’s something endearing about how hard it commits to the bit. If you grew up with the movies or just love bizarre retro games, this one’s a time capsule worth dusting off.
Just don’t expect it to hold your hand—those old-school controls take some getting used to.
