Drive through 1960s London, steal cars, complete missions, evade the police, and climb the criminal ladder in this top-down adventure.
GTA: London 69 came out in 1999 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games lineup, developed by Rockstar Games. It was one of the early expansions in the Grand Theft Auto series, arriving at a time when top-down open world games were still defining the genre. The setting stands out: you're dropped into a pixelated version of 1960s London, complete with period cars, fashion, and a soundtrack full of British rock and radio chatter.
You control a criminal working your way up the underworld ladder, taking on missions from shadowy figures via phone booths. The main goal is to complete jobs, earn respect, and cause as much havoc as possible while evading the law. Signature mechanics include stealing period-specific vehicles like Minis and double-decker buses, engaging in drive-by shootings with a limited aiming arc, and navigating the city's maze-like streets screen by screen. The pacing is fast and unforgiving; police are quick to swarm, and missions often demand precision driving under pressure. It feels chaotic and rough around the edges, but there's a gritty charm to carving out your own path through its rainy, black-and-white rendition of the city.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
