Game Overview

Heirs to the Throne is a strategy game from the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, originally released in 1990 by developer John C. Watson. It fits right into that era of turn-based, thoughtful games where you managed resources and armies from a top-down perspective, without much hand-holding or flashy graphics to distract from the core decisions.

You control a faction of knights and nobles vying for control of a kingdom, moving units across a map divided into provinces. The main goal is to conquer all territories by defeating rival lords or persuading them to join your cause through diplomacy or bribery. Key mechanics include managing gold and influence to recruit troops and secure allegiances, engaging in simple tactical combat when armies clash, and navigating shifting alliances where today's friend might be tomorrow's enemy. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, and the difficulty comes from unpredictable AI behavior and limited resources. It feels like a tense, calculated gamble where every move could either secure your throne or unravel everything you've built.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
