Game Overview

I picked up Hellboy: The Science of Evil on PSP back in 2008, a time when handheld action games were really hitting their stride. Krome Studios developed it, with Konami handling the publishing, and it felt like a solid attempt to bring that comic book brawler energy onto the small screen. It wasn't trying to redefine the genre, but it knew exactly what it wanted to be: a straightforward, beat-em-up adventure with a distinctive license behind it.

You control Hellboy himself, moving through levels packed with enemies, smashing your way from one encounter to the next. Your main goal is to stop a supernatural threat, which involves a lot of punching, grappling, and using the Right Hand of Doom to break obstacles and enemies alike. The combat is chunky and satisfying; you can pick up almost anything in the environment and use it as a weapon, which adds a nice layer of improvisation. The pacing is fairly brisk, with some light puzzle-solving and exploration breaking up the action, though the difficulty can spike unexpectedly in later stages. It feels good to just tear through a room full of monsters with your fists.
